MOLETE ATTACK: OYO EPLF CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AGAINST ACCORD PARTY CAMPAIGN, DEMANDS JUSTICE
Emerging Political Leaders Forum urges security agencies to investigate the reported attack in Molete, Ibadan, and warns political parties against thuggery and intimidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Emerging Political Leaders Forum (EPLF), Oyo State, has condemned the reported attack on an Accord Party campaign in Molete, Ibadan, describing the incident as a threat to peaceful political participation and democratic values.
In a statement issued by the Forum’s Pro-tem Coordinator, Hon. Faysol Oluwakemi, EPLF called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to reject violence and embrace peaceful campaigns as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The Forum expressed concern over the reported incident, stressing that no political ambition justifies the loss of lives, destruction of property or intimidation of citizens.
According to EPLF, political campaigns should serve as platforms for candidates to present their manifestos, engage voters and discuss policies capable of addressing the needs and aspirations of the electorate.
Oluwakemi urged political stakeholders, campaign coordinators and supporters to refrain from thuggery, political intimidation and all forms of electoral violence. He also called on political leaders to discourage inflammatory rhetoric and ensure that their supporters operate within the provisions of the law.
The Forum further appealed to security agencies to investigate the reported attack, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
It also urged relevant authorities to strengthen security around political gatherings to protect citizens’ rights to participate in democratic activities without fear of harassment or violence.
EPLF maintained that credible and peaceful elections depend on the commitment of political actors to tolerance, mutual respect and the rule of law. It emphasised that political competition should be driven by ideas, policies and public service rather than intimidation or the suppression of opposing voices.
The Forum called on all political parties in Oyo State to prioritise issue-based campaigns, respect political differences and place the peace and security of the state above partisan interests.
“Oyo State belongs to all of us, and its peace must not be sacrificed on the altar of political ambition,” the statement emphasised.
Reaffirming its commitment to responsible political participation, peaceful coexistence and democratic values, EPLF urged political stakeholders to work collectively towards ensuring peaceful political activities before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
The Forum stressed that every citizen must be able to exercise their political rights freely and safely, regardless of party affiliation.
