WIKE URGES OPPOSITION TO RECOGNISE TINUBU’S ACHIEVEMENTS, SAYS POLITICS SHOULD NOT OVERRIDE NATIONAL INTEREST
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition politicians to acknowledge the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, insisting that political differences should not prevent objective assessments of government policies and performance.
Wike made the call on Wednesday, October 14, during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, which brought together party leaders, governors and other political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the event, Wike reaffirmed his position as a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while explaining his support for President Tinubu. He argued that party affiliation should not stop politicians from recognising policies and decisions they consider beneficial to the country.
The former Rivers State governor also rejected opposition criticisms portraying the Tinubu administration as lacking direction.
According to the position he articulated, the President has demonstrated a willingness to confront difficult national challenges that previous administrations acknowledged but did not adequately address.
On security, Wike expressed confidence in the administration’s ability to tackle insecurity, pointing to the proposed establishment of state police as a reform that could strengthen security management across the country.
The state police proposal, however, remains a subject of national debate, with stakeholders raising questions about constitutional safeguards, funding, accountability and the relationship between federal and state security authorities.
Wike further challenged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to demonstrate their political strength through measurable results in their respective areas of responsibility, stressing the importance of translating political positions and appointments into tangible outcomes.
A review of the inauguration proceedings by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA) identified Wike’s intervention as one of the notable moments of the event.
The inauguration also featured political figures from different party backgrounds, including Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, highlighting the cross-party political engagements surrounding the event.
For the FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team, the gathering provided an opportunity to document perspectives on governance, public accountability, security reforms and the relationship between political competition and national development.
The forum maintained that discussions about government performance should be guided by verifiable policies, measurable outcomes and the lived experiences of Nigerians across different sectors.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify, Wike’s remarks have again brought attention to the debate over political loyalty, opposition criticism and the need to assess government performance on its merits.
