The Office of the Executive Director of Special Duties, National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee (NANS JCC), Oyo State Axis, has commended the Executive Chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government, Dr. Kolapo Temitope-GLORIOUS, for what it described as a significant investment in the educational development and welfare of students in the local government.

The commendation followed the unveiling of the Annual Bursary Scheme by the Ona-Ara Local Government administration, alongside the Chairman’s pledge of ₦11 million to reward the best-performing students from Ona-Ara in the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to the Office of the Executive Director of Special Duties, the initiative represents a practical demonstration of commitment to education and academic excellence, particularly at a time when financial constraints continue to affect the educational pursuits of many young Nigerians.

The office also applauded the immediate financial assistance provided to more than 40 students during the Ona-Ara Students’ Summit 2026, describing the intervention as a timely gesture capable of easing some of the financial pressures confronting students.

In a statement signed by Afolabi Azeez Olatunji (Possibility), Executive Director of Special Duties, NANS JCC Oyo State Axis, the student body expressed appreciation to the Ona-Ara Local Government Chairman for prioritising the educational aspirations and welfare of students within the local government.

The statement noted that supporting students through bursaries, financial assistance and academic incentives could contribute to creating a more conducive environment for young people to pursue their educational goals and strive for excellence.

The office further observed that the ₦11 million UTME incentive could serve as motivation for students to take their academic pursuits more seriously, while also encouraging healthy competition and a stronger culture of academic achievement among secondary school students across Ona-Ara.

“ We appreciate the Chairman for prioritising the educational aspirations and welfare of students across Ona-Ara and for creating opportunities that can encourage academic excellence among young people,” the statement said.

NANS JCC Oyo State Axis subsequently called on the Ona-Ara Local Government administration to sustain and, where possible, expand its educational interventions to reach more students and support various aspects of their academic journey.

The student body maintained that consistent investment in education remains essential to developing human capital and empowering young people to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the wider society.

The commendation underscores the growing attention being given to student welfare and educational support at the grassroots, with stakeholders continuing to advocate for initiatives that can reduce financial barriers to education and promote academic excellence.
