OSUN 2026: YORUBA YOUTH COUNCIL CALLS FOR FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
YYC Urges INEC, Security Agencies to Protect Voters, Ensure People’s Votes Count.
The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC), the apex body representing indigenous youth groups across South-West Nigeria, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State.
In a statement signed by the President of the Council, Mogaji Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, the YYC urged INEC and all security agencies deployed for the election to discharge their responsibilities professionally, impartially and strictly in accordance with the law.
The Council also appealed to political parties, candidates, their supporters and the electorate to shun violence, intimidation, vote-buying, electoral malpractice and every other act capable of threatening the peaceful conduct of the election.
According to the Council, the people of Osun State deserve an electoral process where every eligible voter can freely exercise their constitutional right without fear, intimidation or interference.
The YYC stressed that the peace, stability and development of Osun State must remain above individual and partisan political interests, noting that democracy can only flourish when the will of the people is respected.
“We call on INEC, the security agencies, political parties, candidates and all stakeholders to conduct themselves with fairness, professionalism and patriotism. The people’s votes must count, and the outcome must reflect the genuine will of the electorate.”
The Council further charged youths across Osun State to reject violence and refuse to be used as instruments of political thuggery, stressing that young people must protect their future by participating responsibly in the democratic process.
The YYC called on security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials, observers and other stakeholders throughout the electoral process, while urging all parties to pursue their political ambitions through lawful and democratic means.
The Council also prayed for God’s intervention, protection and guidance before, during and after the election, expressing confidence that the exercise would be conducted peacefully and produce a result that reflects the genuine choice of the people.
The Yoruba Youth Council congratulated the people of Osun State in advance for their commitment to democratic participation and urged all stakeholders to embrace peace, tolerance and sportsmanship regardless of the outcome of the election.
The YYC believes that a peaceful election is not only a victory for any candidate or political party—it is a victory for the people and the future of Osun State.
