New NANS President, VP pledge to expand opportunities for students
The newly-elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Akinteye Babatunde Afeez and Vice President (External Affairs) Sadiq Zango have pledged to create and expand opportunities for the generality of students, and prioritise their welfare.
A statement signed by the VP Zango reaffirmed the commitment of the new leadership to strengthening institutional frameworks within NANS, deepening engagement with relevant stakeholders at national and international levels, expanding opportunities for Nigerian students, and advancing a more coordinated and impactful advocacy architecture.
It described their emergence as a renewed mandate for purposeful leadership, institutional stability, and strategic repositioning of the Nigerian student movement towards greater national and international relevance.
“The emergence of Comr. Akinteye Afeez and Comr. Sadiq SK Zango reflects a strong mandate of confidence in their leadership capacity, strategic orientation, institutional experience, and long-standing contributions to student advocacy, youth engagement, and organizational development within the Nigerian student movement.
“Both leaders are widely recognized for their consistency in student representation, commitment to constructive engagement, and demonstrated capacity to navigate complex leadership environments within the higher education and youth development space.
“As the new administration prepares to assume office, stakeholders within the education, youth development, and governance ecosystem have expressed optimism that this leadership will usher in a more strategic, unified, and impact-driven era for the Nigerian student movement.
The emergence of this leadership marks a decisive transition into a new phase of institutional continuity, strengthened representation, and enhanced advocacy for Nigerian students,” the statement said.
The new helmsmen further acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders, allies, and mobilization structures whose efforts were instrumental in the successful outcome of the Convention.
