NBA President-elect pledges to heal divisions, unite Bar after meeting Tinubu
President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, on Tuesday pledged to work with members and stakeholders to heal divisions within the legal profession and restore unity in the association ahead of her inauguration next month.
Badejo-Okusanya gave the assurance while speaking with journalists at the State House, Abuja, after paying a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She said she had already begun consultations with members and stakeholders across the association and promised to do everything necessary to address grievances and strengthen the unity of the NBA.
“My swearing-in is not until the end of August. In the meantime, I continue to reach out to members, to stakeholders, so that we can work together to improve things, to heal the hurt anyone has, and to just continue to ensure that we do things to make sure that the NBA continues to fulfill its role to society”, she said.
The NBA president-elect assured members and the public that her administration would be committed to fostering reconciliation and institutional stability.
“Everything that needs to be done, I can assure members and the public that I will do. We’ll make sure that we unite ourselves. We’ll make sure that we put our house in order”, she added.
Speaking on her meeting with President Tinubu, Badejo-Okusanya said the President congratulated her on her election victory, while both of them discussed the challenges associated with electronic voting and the deployment of technology in electoral processes.
According to her, the discussions also focused on ways of strengthening the NBA’s electoral processes through continuous improvements.
“He congratulated me on the victory. We talked about the challenges of electronic voting and technology, and we spoke about the ways in which we can continue to improve on our processes. It was very encouraging”, she said.
