Atiku Reacts As Ogogo Dies At 66
Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, on Sunday expressed sadness over the death of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Alendtrend News had earlier reported that Hassan died on Sunday at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
The actor’s death was announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who disclosed that his remains would be taken to Ilaro, Ogun State, for a Laying-in-State ceremony.
The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11 am at the Pavilion, Ilaro.
Reacting to the development in a statement shared on 𝕏, Atiku described the actor’s death as “deeply saddening,” particularly coming shortly after news of his illness became public.
The former Vice-President wrote, “It is particularly painful that only days after the public became aware of his battle with cancer, we are confronted with the heartbreaking news of his demise.”
Atiku said Ogogo’s contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry extended beyond acting, noting that his performances had influenced and entertained generations of Nigerians.
The former Vice-President praised Ogogo for using his talent to portray social realities while also educating and inspiring his audience.
Atiku stated, “Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than a gifted actor. Through a remarkable career, he brought laughter into countless homes, told stories that reflected our society and used his talent not only to entertain but also to educate and inspire social rebirth.
“His passing leaves a painful void in Nigeria’s creative community and in the hearts of the millions who cherished his work.”
Atiku extended his condolences to Ogogo’s family, colleagues and admirers, saying his death was a loss shared by Nigerians and his fans across the world.
He added, “I join his family, colleagues and admirers in Nigeria and across the world in mourning this profound loss.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, comfort his loved ones and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen.”
