The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Oyo State Chapter, has reaffirmed its commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the association remains aligned with the party from the grassroots to the national level.

The position was made known by the association’s Deputy State Chairman (Administration), Amb. Kola Yusuf, who also oversees General Administration and Publicity, during the RTEAN Oyo State meeting held on September 15, 2026, at the association’s State Secretariat, Yemetu, Ibadan.

Amb. Yusuf said the association remains committed to the APC and expressed support for Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli as its preferred APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, while also declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He described the position as “APC from bottom to top,” stressing that RTEAN’s membership cuts across the three senatorial districts of Oyo State.

RTEAN Dismisses Reports of Defection
Amb. Yusuf also dismissed reports suggesting that RTEAN Oyo State was considering moving to another political party, describing such reports as unfounded.

According to him, the association remains committed to its stated political alignment and has members spread across different parts of Oyo State.

RTEAN Clarifies Leadership Position
The Deputy State Chairman also addressed concerns surrounding the status of Alh. Basiru Owoiya, popularly known as Jagunlabi.

Amb. Yusuf described Owoiya as a suspended member of the association and said he should desist from presenting himself as a member of the executive or as the Zonal Chairman of RTEAN in Oyo State.

He stated that Otunba Desmond Muyiwa is the person recognised by the association as its chairman.

He therefore urged members of the public, government institutions, political stakeholders and other organisations to verify the identity and authority of anyone claiming to represent RTEAN Oyo State before engaging with such individuals.

Public Urged to Verify RTEAN Representatives
Amb. Yusuf said the clarification was aimed at preventing confusion and ensuring that official engagements involving RTEAN are conducted through individuals recognised by the association.

He appealed to organisations and members of the public to properly verify the status and authority of persons presenting themselves as RTEAN officials.

RTEAN, NURTW Urged to Sustain Peaceful Coexistence

Speaking on the relationship between RTEAN and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Amb. Yusuf advocated continued peaceful coexistence and cooperation between the two transport associations.

He said both organisations could work together to promote peace, harmony and stability within the transport sector, noting that instances of peaceful coexistence between RTEAN and NURTW have been witnessed in different parts of Nigeria.

According to him, such cooperation should continue beyond the 2027 general elections, stressing that political differences should not undermine the need for unity and peaceful relations among transport workers.

He further emphasised the importance of dialogue, cooperation and peaceful engagement among stakeholders, describing these as essential to the development of the transport sector and the wider society.

Amb. Yusuf reiterated that RTEAN has members across the three senatorial districts of Oyo State, highlighting the association’s broad presence within the state.
