Oyo School Abductions: NANS Relocates National Headquarters, Intensifies Advocacy

PRESS STATEMENT

NANS RELOCATES NATIONAL SECRETARIAT TO OYO STATE OVER ABDUCTED STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) wishes to formally inform the public, relevant authorities, stakeholders in the education sector, and all Nigerian students that effective from 1st June 2026, the National Headquarters of NANS has temporarily relocated its operational secretariat to Oyo State.

This decisive action underscores the seriousness with which we view the continued captivity of the students and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The prolonged detention of innocent students and educators remains a painful reminder of the security challenges confronting our educational institutions and communities.

As the umbrella body representing millions of Nigerian students, we cannot remain silent or distant while our colleagues and teachers continue to be held against their will. The temporary relocation of our secretariat is a demonstration of our commitment to securing their freedom and ensuring that their plight remains at the forefront of national discourse until a lasting solution is achieved.

We wish to state unequivocally that NANS is resolute in its determination to ensure that the kidnapped students and teachers regain their freedom and are safely reunited with their families, loved ones, and academic communities as soon as possible. We shall continue to engage relevant security agencies, government authorities, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, and all critical stakeholders towards achieving this objective.

The safety, security, and welfare of Nigerian students remain our foremost priority. We believe that every student deserves to learn in an environment free from fear, intimidation, and insecurity. The continued abduction of students poses a grave threat to education, national development, and the future of our country, and must therefore be treated as a matter of urgent national concern.

We call on the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, and all security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing the immediate and unconditional release of the victims. We also urge Nigerians to support ongoing efforts and continue to stand in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult period.

NANS remains committed to justice, accountability, and the protection of the rights and dignity of every Nigerian student. We shall not relent until our students and teachers are safely returned home.
