June 12 Democracy Day: ADC Gubernatorial Aspirant Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan Calls for Renewed Hope, Stronger Democracy in Oyo State
June 12 is not just a date on the calendar—it is a powerful reminder of sacrifice, struggle, and the unshakable voice of the Nigerian people.
As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan, has delivered a passionate message calling on citizens to rekindle their belief in democracy and demand leadership that truly reflects the will of the people.
In his Democracy Day reflection, Eleniyan described June 12 as a symbol of courage—honoring those who stood firm in 1993 for a free, fair, and credible election. He noted that the struggle of that era was not in vain, but a foundation that continues to remind Nigerians that power belongs to the people.
However, he stressed that democracy must go beyond celebration and speeches. According to him, the real meaning of June 12 is only achieved when governance delivers justice, fairness, and visible development in the everyday lives of citizens.
He pointed out that many communities in Oyo State still long for better infrastructure, improved education, youth empowerment, and economic opportunities—adding that these are the true measures of democratic success, not political slogans.
Eleniyan also made a strong appeal to young people, describing them as the heartbeat of democracy and the driving force of change. He urged them not to lose faith in the political process but to actively participate, ask questions, and demand accountability from leaders at every level.
“Our democracy must not only be celebrated—it must work for the people,” his message emphasized, calling for a leadership culture built on transparency, inclusiveness, and service.
Reaffirming his vision for Oyo State, he pledged commitment to a government that prioritizes people-centered policies, strengthens public institutions, and opens up equal opportunities for all citizens regardless of background or status.
He further explained that true democratic leadership must be measured by impact—how well it improves lives, creates jobs, supports education, and ensures security for all.
As the nation reflects on the meaning of June 12, Eleniyan called for unity across political, ethnic, and social divides, urging citizens to work together for a stronger, more prosperous Oyo State.
with a message of hope: that the sacrifices of the past must inspire a better future where democracy is not just practiced, but fully felt by every citizen.
