JDS @ 58: BASA HAILS SANUSI AS TRUE STATESMAN, URGES OYO GOVERNMENT TO LEVERAGE HIS VISION FOR DEVELOPMENT
Says Oyo’s Development Must Transcend Politics, Calls for Collaboration with Development-Minded Individuals
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA), has described Chief Engr. Dr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi (JDS), the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, as a true statesman whose overriding desire is to see Oyo State develop and prosper.
BASA made the remarks in a birthday tribute to Sanusi as he celebrated his 58th birthday anniversary on Saturday, October 17, 2026, commending his commitment to the advancement of society and willingness to deploy his personal resources and influence towards the development of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
Describing Sanusi as a respected elder brother and an inspiration to many, BASA noted that his contributions to society demonstrate a genuine commitment to the collective good beyond political interests and affiliations.
“Engr. Sanusi is a big brother, and many of us are looking up to him,” she said, acknowledging his influence and the example he continues to set through his dedication to the progress of the state.
According to BASA, Sanusi’s birthday celebration presents an opportunity to recognise a personality whose approach to development underscores the importance of personal sacrifice, enterprise and collective responsibility in building a prosperous society.
Oyo’s Development Must Transcend Politics
BASA stressed that the development of Oyo State should not be restricted by political affiliations, insisting that every individual who demonstrates a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people should be encouraged to contribute to the state's progress.
She observed that while political participation provides an important platform for influencing policies, attracting development and addressing the needs of citizens, the responsibility of building a better society extends beyond public office and partisan politics.
According to her, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, investors, traditional institutions and other well-meaning individuals all have important roles to play in complementing government efforts.
She noted that people who are willing to commit their personal resources, expertise, time and influence to initiatives that benefit society should be recognised as valuable partners in development.
BASA maintained that Sanusi represents the kind of development-minded individual whose commitment to the advancement of Oyo State deserves encouragement and constructive engagement.
Government Cannot Do Everything Alone
The PDP senatorial candidate also raised questions about the capacity of government to address every developmental challenge without the active participation of other stakeholders.
She noted that critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment, youth empowerment and social welfare, require substantial resources and sustained collaboration to achieve meaningful and lasting progress.
According to her, no government, regardless of its policies, intentions or available resources, can single-handedly meet every need of its citizens.
She therefore urged the Oyo State Government to embrace constructive partnerships with individuals who possess the resources, experience and willingness to contribute to the state's development.
BASA emphasised that such collaboration must be guided by transparency, accountability and clearly defined objectives to ensure that the benefits reach the people.
She argued that encouraging individuals who are prepared to invest their hard-earned resources in the development of their communities would complement public programmes, expand opportunities and strengthen efforts to improve living standards across the state.
The senator hopeful stressed that acknowledging the role of private individuals and other non-governmental stakeholders in development should not be interpreted as a weakness on the part of government, but rather as a practical recognition that sustainable progress requires shared responsibility.
Leadership Beyond Titles and Recognition
Reflecting on Sanusi’s 58th birthday, BASA noted that the true measure of leadership goes beyond traditional titles, business achievements and public recognition.
She maintained that genuine leadership is demonstrated through meaningful contributions to society, the opportunities created for others and a sustained commitment to improving the lives of the people.
For BASA, Sanusi remains a source of inspiration to those who believe that leadership, enterprise and public service should ultimately translate into tangible progress for the people.
She added that Oyo State's aspiration for greater prosperity would be strengthened by encouraging productive relationships between government, private investors, philanthropists and other individuals committed to the common good.
As the state continues to pursue development across various sectors, BASA called for an inclusive approach that recognises the contributions of all well-meaning stakeholders, irrespective of their political affiliations.
She reiterated that Sanusi’s birthday was not merely an occasion to celebrate another year of life, but also an opportunity to appreciate the importance of combining personal achievement with a commitment to societal advancement.
BASA Wishes Sanusi Greater Accomplishments
BASA congratulated the celebrant on his 58th birthday, commending his commitment to the people and wishing him continued good health, greater accomplishments and more opportunities to contribute to humanity.
She expressed the hope that the years ahead would bring renewed opportunities for Sanusi to support the development of Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria.
“Happy 58th birthday to Chief Engr. Dr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland. May the years ahead bring greater accomplishments and more opportunities to contribute to the development and prosperity of Oyo State and its people,” BASA stated.
