“It Wasn’t Ulcer, It Was Cancer” — Ogogo’s Daughter Reveals Father’s Health Battle, Seeks Prayers

“It Wasn’t Ulcer, It Was Cancer” — Ogogo’s Daughter Reveals Father’s Health Battle, Seeks Prayers

The daughter of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has opened up about her father’s ongoing health challenge, revealing the emotional difficulties the family has faced since learning that his condition was more serious than they initially believed.

Speaking during a TikTok livestream, she said the family initially thought Ogogo was battling an ulcer, only to later discover that he was dealing with cancer.

She described her father as a good, peaceful, humble and honourable man, saying he has remained one of her greatest sources of motivation and emotional strength.

According to her, whenever she needs encouragement or someone to speak with during difficult moments, her father is usually the first person she calls. She stressed that his importance to the family goes beyond being a father, describing him as a source of inspiration and stability.

She also shared a deeply personal part of her father's family history, revealing that her grandmother gave birth to five sets of twins and that her father was reportedly the only survivor of the final set of twins.

Family Condemns Insensitive Social Media Broadcast

The emotional situation was further complicated by an incident involving an individual who visited Ogogo at the hospital with Agbo, a traditional herbal preparation.

While the family did not object to the gesture of bringing medicine, his daughter expressed disappointment that the individual later went live on social media and made comments about the actor's condition.

She questioned the motive behind publicly discussing her father's health at such a vulnerable moment, arguing that such comments could create unnecessary fear and anxiety among relatives, friends and fans.

According to her, the family had deliberately avoided taking pictures with her father at the hospital because they wanted to protect his privacy and prevent unnecessary publicity surrounding his condition.

She described the subsequent social media broadcast as insensitive and unfair, particularly because it exposed information before some close relatives had even been properly informed.

Ogogo's Elder Brother Learns of His Condition Online

One of the most painful aspects of the incident, she revealed, was that Ogogo's elder brother reportedly learned about his condition through the social media video.

She explained that the two men are brothers from the same mother and share a very strong relationship.

The revelation reportedly left Ogogo's elder brother devastated. According to her, he became emotional and repeatedly asked:

“Ṣé Taye ti lọ ni?”
“Has Taiwo passed away?”

For the family, hearing such a question from a close relative who was unaware of the true situation reportedly added another layer of emotional pain to an already difficult period.

“All I Want Is for My Father to Get Better”

In perhaps the most emotional part of her message, Ogogo's daughter revealed the extent of her desperation to see her father recover.

She said that if her father survives the illness, she would even be willing to give away the only car she owns.

Her statement reflects the depth of her attachment to her father and the family's desire to see him regain his health.

For her, material possessions are insignificant compared with the life and wellbeing of her father.

Yinka Quadri Also Mentioned

She also spoke about the close relationship between Ogogo and fellow veteran Yoruba actor Yinka Quadri, saying the two have maintained a strong bond over the years.

She recalled that whenever she is speaking with her father and Yinka Quadri calls, Ogogo often tells her:

“Yinka Quadri ló pè mí, mà pè é padà.”
“Yinka Quadri is calling me; I’ll call you back.”

She said this illustrates how important the veteran actor is to her father and suggested that Yinka Quadri would be deeply affected by the news of Ogogo's condition.

A Call for Prayers, Compassion and Privacy
Despite the emotional challenges, Ogogo's daughter expressed gratitude to the numerous fans, colleagues and well-wishers who have continued to pray for her father.

She said the family sees the prayers and appreciates everyone standing by them during this difficult period.

Her central appeal, however, was for people to pray rather than spread unverified or insensitive information about her father's condition.

The family is currently asking for continued prayers, emotional support and respect for Ogogo's privacy as he undergoes treatment.

For the many fans who have followed Ogogo's career and celebrated his contributions to Yoruba cinema over the years, the family's message is a simple one: keep him in your prayers and allow the family the space and privacy needed to focus on his recovery.
