2027: Jubril Dotun Sanusi Applauds Oyo People’s Massive Turnout at Tinubu Torch Bearers Inauguration
“The Torch Has Been Lit. Now, Let Service Answer”
The Okanlomo Oódua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief (Engr.) Dr. Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has commended the people of Oyo State for their massive turnout and active participation at the inauguration of the Oyo State Chapter of the Tinubu Torch Bearers.
The inauguration, held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the historic Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, attracted thousands of participants from across the state, including youths, women, traders, artisans, professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Sanusi described the gathering as more than a political event or ceremonial occasion, saying the impressive turnout reflected the spirit, hope and collective aspirations of the people of Oyo State.
In a statement issued after the inauguration, he expressed gratitude to the people for their support, sacrifice, commitment and confidence in the initiative.
“What we witnessed was more than a gathering. It was more than a ceremony. It was a powerful demonstration of the spirit, hope and collective aspirations of our people.”
Sanusi also appreciated the Federal Government and the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, whose presence was represented at the event by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs.
He said the First Lady’s representation underscored the importance attached to women empowerment, youth development, grassroots participation and the collective aspiration for a better Nigeria.
The Okanlomo Oódua particularly commended the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs for conveying the goodwill, encouragement and support of the First Lady to the people of Oyo State.
He, however, said the real heroes of the occasion were the thousands of ordinary Nigerians who came out in large numbers, describing their participation as proof that “hope is alive” in Oyo State.
According to him, the Tinubu Torch Bearers initiative must go beyond the symbolism of carrying a torch and instead become a vehicle for practical service and meaningful grassroots engagement.
“A Torch Bearer must therefore understand that the torch is not an ornament. It is a responsibility. The torch we carry must illuminate the path of the people. It must lead us to service, compassion, unity and, above all, action.”
Sanusi stressed that the initiative must translate into tangible support and opportunities for market women, artisans, youths, students, professionals and communities across the state.
He said the massive turnout had placed an even greater responsibility on the leadership of the movement to listen to the people, stand with them, support their aspirations and create opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians.
He also commended traditional rulers, political and community leaders, women, youths, traders, artisans, volunteers, organisers and all individuals and organisations whose contributions made the inauguration successful.
Sanusi noted that while prominent personalities may occupy the stage, the thousands of ordinary citizens who travelled from different communities and sacrificed their time and resources gave the occasion its true meaning.
He urged members of the movement to become ambassadors of peace, servants of the people and voices for communities whose concerns are often unheard, while rejecting hatred, violence and political division.
“We may come from different political backgrounds. We may belong to different communities. We may speak different languages and hold different opinions. But we share one future.”
The Okanlomo Oódua further emphasised that Nigeria’s development requires collective responsibility, stressing that the future of Oyo State and Nigerian children must remain a shared priority.
He said the August 31 inauguration should not be seen as the end of an event but as the beginning of a new phase of grassroots engagement, purposeful leadership and service to humanity.
“Yesterday, we carried the torch. Today, we must carry the responsibility. Yesterday, we celebrated. Today, we must begin the work. Yesterday, the people gathered. Today, we must ensure that their hope is not wasted.”
Sanusi called on all Torch Bearers to ensure that the torch of hope reaches villages, markets, schools and communities, particularly through initiatives that improve the lives and opportunities of women and young people.
Concluding, he thanked everyone who travelled from far and near to participate in the inauguration, describing their presence as a significant demonstration of faith, participation and confidence in a better future.
“When history asks what happened on the 31st of August 2026, let it be said: The people came. The people stood together. The people carried hope. And the Torch was lit.”
“The Torch has been lit. The people have spoken. Now, let service answer.”
