2027: Agbekoya Solidarity Movement Declares Support for Tinubu, Backs Alli’s Oyo Governorship Ambition

The National Executive Council of the Agbekoya Solidarity Movement of Nigeria has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, while also backing the gubernatorial ambition of Senator Sharafadeen Alli in Oyo State.

The declaration was made during a solidarity visit by the movement’s national leadership to the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, at Ilaji Resort, Ibadan.

According to a statement from the Okanlomo Media Centre, the delegation was led by the National President of the movement, Aare Ahmed Bankole, and included seven state chairmen from the 10 states currently covered by the organisation.

Speaking during the meeting, the National Chairman, Oloye Olaolu Akinpelu, said the visit was part of efforts to formally reaffirm the movement’s commitment to the Tinubu 2027 project and mobilise grassroots support for the President.

“We are here today, alongside our state chairmen from across our areas of operation, to declare our unrelenting support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. We are prepared to defend our territory before, during and after the elections,” Akinpelu said.

He said the movement would continue to activate its structures across its areas of operation and engage members and stakeholders in support of its political agenda.

Akinpelu, however, emphasised the need for peaceful and responsible political participation, noting that mobilisation should be conducted in a manner that promotes unity and stability.

Sanusi Calls for Unity, Peaceful Political Engagement

Responding to the delegation, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi expressed appreciation to the Agbekoya Solidarity Movement for the visit and for the confidence reposed in his leadership.

Sanusi acknowledged the significance of grassroots organisations and community-based structures in shaping political participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged the movement’s leadership and members to maintain unity, discipline and peaceful engagement throughout the electoral process.

The Ibadan traditional title holder also stressed that political mobilisation should ultimately remain centred on the interests, welfare and development of the people, urging political actors and support groups to prioritise issues that directly affect communities.

The meeting brought together key leaders of the movement, including the National Secretary, Comrade Agboola Idris, alongside state chairmen from Oyo, Ondo, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Osun, Ogun and Edo states.

Those present included Comrade Olatunji Taiwo (Oyo), Comrade Olufemi Odebode (Ondo), Comrade Gbadamosi Wale Joseph (Kogi), Comrade Kolawole Olodo (Kwara), Comrade Oyelami Abiodun (Lagos), Comrade Asimiyu Buniyamin (Osun), Comrade Mukaila Asebebe (Ogun), and Comrade Moses Gbenga Awe (Edo).

The engagement further highlights the growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly the increasing role of grassroots movements, community organisations and organised political support groups in shaping electoral mobilisation across Nigeria.
