South West Under Fear: Who Will Protect the Innocent?
The recent attack on a school in Ahoro-Esinele community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has continued to generate widespread reactions and emotional concerns among Nigerians, particularly residents of the South West region.
The tragic incident, which led to the killing of a teacher, Mr. Joel Adesiyan, and the abduction of a school principal alongside some pupils, has once again raised serious questions about the growing insecurity spreading across communities once regarded as peaceful.
Many residents and concerned citizens expressed deep sadness after a viral video surfaced online showing the abducted principal passionately pleading with the Oyo State Government and the Federal Government for urgent intervention and rescue.
The emotional video has stirred fears across the region, with many Nigerians lamenting that the South West, traditionally known for peace, education, and stability, is gradually becoming overshadowed by fear and uncertainty.
Observers noted that the attack has intensified concerns among parents, teachers, and community leaders who now fear for the safety of schools and innocent children.
Several stakeholders have called for stronger security measures, improved intelligence gathering, and greater collaboration between local communities and security agencies to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and violent attacks.
Concerned citizens also urged government at all levels to act swiftly and decisively in restoring public confidence and ensuring that schools remain safe environments for learning.
As security operatives continue efforts to rescue the abducted victims, prayers and solidarity messages have continued to pour in for the affected families and the entire Ahoro-Esinele community.
Many Nigerians maintain that protecting innocent citizens, especially school children, must remain a top national priority.
