SOS: “ENOUGH OF THE NEGLECT!” — MOGAJI ADEOYE URGES MAKINDE TO RESCUE AKANRAN–ILAJI ROAD

SOS: “ENOUGH OF THE NEGLECT!” — MOGAJI ADEOYE URGES MAKINDE TO RESCUE AKANRAN–ILAJI ROAD

The Oyo State Government has once again been urged to urgently intervene in the deplorable condition of the Akanran–Ilaji Road, a critical access route whose poor state continues to raise concerns among residents, businesses, visitors and stakeholders in the area.

The passionate appeal was made by Mogaji Olaide Adeoye Olubodun, who called on the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde to give immediate attention to the rehabilitation of the road before the expiration of the present administration.

According to Mogaji Adeoye, the continued neglect of the road is not only creating unnecessary hardship for road users but is also affecting the economic prospects, tourism potential and overall development of the communities along the axis.

Of particular concern, he noted, is the impact of the road's condition on Ilaji Farms & Resort, one of the prominent tourism, hospitality and recreational destinations in Ibadanland.

Mogaji Adeoye expressed disappointment that despite the strategic importance of the area and the longstanding support, solidarity and goodwill demonstrated by Oloye Jubril Dotun Sanusi (JDS) towards the administration and the development of Oyo State, the road has continued to suffer prolonged neglect.

“It is sad, disheartening and frustrating that the Akanran–Ilaji Road has remained unfixed and unattended to for many years. This road is important not only to the people living and doing business around the area but also to the continued growth, accessibility and patronage of Ilaji Farms & Resort.”

He explained that a functional road network remains fundamental to economic growth, stressing that the current condition of the Akanran–Ilaji Road could discourage visitors, increase transportation challenges, raise vehicle maintenance costs and limit the ability of businesses in the area to maximise their potential.

He further argued that rehabilitating the road would have benefits beyond Ilaji Farms & Resort, as improved accessibility would stimulate commercial activities, support local businesses, enhance transportation and create a more conducive environment for investment and tourism.

Mogaji Adeoye maintained that the Akanran–Ilaji axis has significant potential to become an even stronger economic and tourism corridor if the necessary infrastructure is provided.

He noted that good road infrastructure would make movement easier for residents and visitors while opening up opportunities for more businesses and investments around the area.

“We sincerely appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde to fix the Akanran–Ilaji Road before the expiration of this administration. There is nothing more desirable than leaving behind infrastructure that will continue to benefit the people and accelerate the development of this part of Ibadanland.”

He stressed that the appeal should not be viewed merely as a request for road construction but as a call for an intervention capable of producing lasting socio-economic benefits for the people.

According to him, the rehabilitation of the road would represent a meaningful investment in tourism, transportation, commerce, employment and community development.

While acknowledging the administration's efforts in different sectors across Oyo State, Mogaji Adeoye urged the government to consider the Akanran–Ilaji Road as an urgent intervention requiring decisive action.

He called for the complete rehabilitation of the road, rather than temporary palliative measures, so that residents and businesses can enjoy a durable and dependable transportation route.

He also appealed to relevant government agencies and stakeholders to work together towards finding a lasting solution to the challenges posed by the road.

Mogaji Adeoye maintained that fixing the road would be a positive legacy that would be remembered by residents, business owners, tourists, investors and communities within and around the Akanran–Ilaji axis.

“Akanran–Ilaji Road deserves urgent attention. We appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde: please fix this road for us.”

The message, he said, is simple: the people have waited long enough, the economic potential is too important to ignore, and the road deserves urgent government attention.
