The Honorable Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police.

The Right Honorable Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly,
All serving and retired teachers, tutors and Lecturers in Oyo State.
Gentlemen of the Press.
The national leadership of the NIGERIA TEACHERS CONGRESS *NTC* Nigeria's foremost NGO that serves as watchdog on Teacher Unions and hold every teacher union accountable to their members have studied critically the unfolding event in the abduction of teachers and students in Ogbomosho region of Oyo State, arising from an emergence meeting today *Sunday May 17, 2026* resolved to issue this PRESS STATEMENT for circulation.
It is with grave concern we write to express our deep pain and outrage over the horrifying abduction of the Principal, teachers, and students, as well as the cold-blooded murder of a teacher and a student during the attack on schools in Ahoro Esin Ele and Yawota, Orire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso Zone on May 15, 2026.
This barbaric attack is not merely an assault on innocent citizens; it is an attack on education itself, on the teaching profession, and on the collective future of our nation.
The *Nigeria Teachers Congress* strongly condemns this heinous act and unequivocally declares that Nigerian teachers shall not fold their arms while criminal elements turn our schools into theatres of terror.
Our Immediate Demands
1. Immediate arrest and prosecution of all captors and perpetrators responsible for the abduction of the Principal, teachers, and students of the affected schools in Ogbomoso Zone.
2. Immediate and unconditional release of all abducted victims without harm or delay.
3. Justice and adequate compensation for the families of the slain teacher and student whose lives were unjustly cut short in the course of this senseless violence.
4. Immediate deployment of reinforced security architecture across vulnerable schools in Oyo State, especially rural and border communities.
5. Comprehensive trauma care, rehabilitation, and institutional support for affected students, staff, and families.
National Directive to All Serving and Retired Teachers in Oyo State
In solemn solidarity and collective intercession, the Nigeria Teachers Congress NTC hereby directs all serving and retired teachers across Oyo State to observe:
A DAY OF FASTING AND PRAYER.

During this spiritual exercise:
Teachers in (active service)are to hold prayer networks in their various schools during break time.

* Justice against the perpetrators.
* Lasting peace and protection for all schools in Oyo State and Nigeria.
This is not merely a professional response; it is a moral and spiritual duty.
The teaching profession has always stood as a pillar of civilization. We refuse to allow fear, violence, and lawlessness to destroy the sanctity of our schools.
We therefore call on the Government of Oyo State, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and all well-meaning Nigerians to act decisively and urgently.
History will remember what was done at this critical hour.
We stand firmly with the affected families, the school communities, and every educator across Oyo State.
May justice prevail, and may peace return to our schools.
Accept the assurances of our highest regards.
