OYO 2027 THE WIND OF CHANGE: Why Oyo State Must Break the 28-Year Monopoly and Embrace Hon. Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan
For nearly three decades, a quiet but damaging political imbalance has held Oyo State captive. Since the return of democracy, our political landscape has been dominated by a single narrative: "The Son of Ibadan" must always be the Governor.
Let us look at the hard, cold facts of the last 28 years: Ibadan-born governors have ruled Oyo State for 24 of those years.
While we love and cherish our capital city, this deep-seated "Ibadan-only" mentality has created a massive developmental gap. Ibadan has grown, modernized, and received the lion's share of state resources, while our other beautiful cities, historic towns, and rich agricultural hubs are left to starve of infrastructure, industrialization, and modern development.
Is Oyo State made up of only Ibadan? No! Oyo State is a massive, diverse, and vibrant land of 33 Local Government Areas.
If we want a state where wealth, good roads, quality healthcare, and industrial growth are distributed equally, power must change hands now.
One State, 33 LGAs: Development Beyond Ibadan
To build a truly prosperous Oyo State, we must recognize, value, and develop every single one of our 33 Local Government Areas.
Our state is not a single city—it is a collection of thriving regions that deserve equal attention:
The Ibadan Zone (Urban Core): Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan South-East, Ibadan South-West, Akinyele, Egbeda, Oluyole, Ona Ara, and Ido. (While these areas continue to develop, they must not swallow the future of the rest of the state).
The Oyo Zone (The Custodians of Culture): Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East, and Oyo West.
The Ogbomoso Zone (The Land of Enterprise): Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Ogo Oluwa, Oriire, and Surulere.
The Ibarapa Zone (The Food Basket): Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa East, and Ibarapa North.
The Oke-Ogun Zone (Oyo North - The Giant of Agriculture): Atisbo, Irepo, Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Kajola, Olorunsogo, Oorelope, Saki East, and Saki West.
Look at this list. How can we justify neglecting the economic potential of Iseyin, Saki, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Igboora, and Kisi just to keep power locked in one city?
The Youth Must Rise:
Why Eleniyan is the Answer
The youth of Oyo State hold the key to the future.
We cannot keep doing the exact same thing and expect a different result. This is the moment to shed old biases. We must stop voting based on "where a man comes from" and start voting based on capacity, character, and vision.
Hon. Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan is from Oyo North.
He is a leader who understands the struggles of the neglected local governments.
He possesses the capacity, the youthfulness, the intellectual depth, and the political will to govern Oyo State equitably.
Under an ADC-led government with Eleniyan at the helm, development will no longer stop at the toll gate of Ibadan,It will stretch to the far reaches of Oke-Ogun, flow through Ogbomoso, revitalize the Oyo zone, and empower the Ibarapa plains.
The Message is Clear: Power Must Change With love in our hearts for Ibadan, we must boldly tell ourselves the truth: it is time to give other zones a chance to lead.
I, Hon. Daniel Akeni (ADC Diaspora Deputy Coordinator), stand fully and unapologetically with Hon. Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan for Governor of Oyo State.
I call on all progress-minded youths, elders, and residents across all 33 LGAs to reject the old "son of the soil" politics.
Let us vote for capacity.
Let us vote for all-inclusive development.
Let us vote for ADC and elect Eleniyan to lead Oyo State into a balanced, prosperous, and glorious new dawn!
Power must change for the better of Oyo State!
