SDP Affirms Saheed Oladele as Consensus Governorship Candidate

Ibadan, Oyo State – The Social Democratic Party (SDP), under the leadership of its INEC-recognised National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, has affirmed Saheed Oladele as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial election.

The affirmation took place at a well-attended party gathering in Ibadan, where delegates and members of the party unanimously adopted Chief Oladele through an overwhelming voice vote, with no opposition recorded during the exercise.

Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Chairman of the SDP, Mr. Micheal Idowu Owokoya, explained that Chief Oladele emerged as the party's consensus candidate after being identified as the only duly registered member from Oyo State who purchased the party's Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms before the deadline stipulated by the electoral process.

According to Owokoya, the decision to adopt Oladele was also influenced by his proven leadership qualities, credibility, commitment to public service, and growing acceptance among party members and residents across Oyo State.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Oladele expressed profound gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, and members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to justify the trust placed in him and work tirelessly towards securing victory for the SDP in the 2027 governorship election.

The Baàmẹ̀kọ́ of Ibadanland stated that his ambition is driven by a genuine desire to serve the people of Oyo State, emphasizing that he remains committed to contesting and winning the governorship election on the platform of the SDP.

He further cautioned against actions capable of undermining the party's collective interest, stressing that the SDP should not be used as a platform for personal political bargaining or negotiations at the expense of loyal members and the aspirations of the people.

Oladele also called on party faithful to remain united, focused, and committed to the growth and success of the SDP, irrespective of differing views and tendencies within the party structure.

The endorsement is expected to strengthen the SDP's preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections as the party seeks to expand its influence and present a formidable challenge in Oyo State's political landscape.
