OYO 2027: ALAGBE REAFFIRMS ADC GOVERNORSHIP TICKET, UNVEILS NIYI ABORISADE AS RUNNING MATE

OYO 2027: ALAGBE REAFFIRMS ADC GOVERNORSHIP TICKET, UNVEILS NIYI ABORISADE AS RUNNING MATE

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Candidate in Oyo State, Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe (Eleniyan), has reaffirmed his claim to the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that official records and relevant electoral documents support his candidacy.

Alagbe made the declaration on Thursday, August 13, 2026, during a press briefing in Ibadan, where he also formally unveiled Barrister Niyi Aborisade as his running mate and Deputy Governorship Candidate of the ADC in Oyo State.

The declaration comes amid ongoing controversies and competing claims surrounding the ADC governorship ticket in Oyo State, with different political actors laying claim to the party’s mandate.

‘Let the documents speak’

Speaking at the briefing, Alagbe maintained that the controversy over the ADC governorship ticket should not be settled through political statements, speculation or propaganda, but through verifiable documents and official records.

According to him, his position is supported by documentation emanating from the relevant authorities and institutions involved in the electoral process.

He specifically cited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) True Certified Copy (TCC) and other relevant documents which, according to him, provide evidence concerning the conduct and outcome of the governorship primary election.

Alagbe stressed that the integrity of the electoral process requires all stakeholders to rely on authentic records and established procedures rather than unverified claims.

He therefore urged party members, supporters and the general public to examine the available documentation and allow due process to determine the legitimate candidate of the party.

A major highlight of the press briefing was the formal presentation of Barr. Niyi Aborisade as Alagbe’s running mate.

The development signals the commencement of efforts to consolidate the Alagbe-led campaign structure ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Alagbe described Aborisade as a capable and competent partner whose experience and qualities would contribute significantly to the political project.

He said the choice of his running mate reflects the campaign’s determination to build a team based on competence, inclusiveness, credibility and a shared commitment to the development of Oyo State.

The Alagbe-Aborisade ticket is expected to focus on presenting the ADC as a viable political alternative to the people of the state as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Call for reconciliation within ADC

Beyond the question of the governorship ticket, Alagbe used the occasion to extend a message of reconciliation to members and stakeholders of the ADC.

He acknowledged that disagreements and grievances had emerged within the party as a result of the internal processes surrounding the governorship contest.

However, he stressed that such differences should not be allowed to destroy the collective political interests of the party.

According to him, efforts are already underway to engage aggrieved members and stakeholders with a view to resolving outstanding issues and restoring unity within the party.

He appealed to all factions and interest groups within the ADC to place the overall interest of the party above individual ambitions.

'We must move forward as one’

Alagbe emphasised that the 2027 election requires a united political structure capable of mobilising supporters across Oyo State.

He called on party leaders, aspirants, members, supporters and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and reconciliation, arguing that internal disagreements should ultimately give way to a common purpose.

He maintained that the ADC must concentrate on strengthening its structures at the grassroots and presenting a credible political alternative to the electorate.

The governorship candidate further urged his supporters to remain calm and committed to the party while the various issues surrounding the ticket are addressed through the appropriate channels.

A new phase for the ADC campaign

The unveiling of Aborisade and Alagbe’s renewed declaration of his candidacy represent an important development in the unfolding political contest ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.

With political activities gradually intensifying, the dispute over the ADC ticket has attracted considerable attention among political stakeholders and observers in the state.

Alagbe’s position is that the matter should be determined by official documentation and due process, rather than competing narratives.
He consequently reiterated his readiness to work with all members of the party who are committed to the ADC’s success.

The campaign organisation said the immediate priority is to strengthen reconciliation efforts, unify party structures and prepare the party for the political challenges ahead.

A call for unity and collective action

Concluding his remarks, Alagbe called on ADC members and supporters across the state to remain united and focused on the larger objective of providing purposeful leadership for Oyo State.

He said personal differences should not be allowed to overshadow the collective aspirations of party members and supporters.

For the Alagbe campaign, the message is straightforward: official records should be allowed to determine the legitimacy of the governorship ticket, due process should be respected, and the party should move beyond internal disagreements toward reconciliation and unity.

The campaign organisation expressed confidence that continued dialogue among stakeholders would help resolve the existing differences and position the ADC for a stronger showing in the 2027 elections.
