OYO 2027: 20,000 Market Traders Back Tinubu, Alli as 27 Grassroots Groups Join JDS Support Group
The political structure of the Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has recorded another major grassroots mobilisation, as more than 20,000 market traders from across Oyo State rallied at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Ibadan.
The gathering also witnessed the formal induction of the Ibagbeola Political Movement into the growing Jubril Dotun Sanusi (JDS) Support Group, further expanding the coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes days after the inauguration of the Tinubu Torch Bearers (TTB) in Oyo State at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, on Monday, August 31, 2026, an event that organisers said generated significant interest among grassroots political groups.
According to the organisers, 27 independent political and grassroots organisations, each reportedly boasting more than 1,000 members, have expressed interest in collapsing their structures into the JDS Support Group.
The organisations, including the newly inducted Ibagbeola Political Movement, are said to have been attracted by the growing visibility, organisational capacity and grassroots mobilisation network of the JDS structure.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi called on members to move beyond political meetings and take their mobilisation directly to the people.
He urged the various groups to intensify house-to-house campaigns, community engagement and grassroots sensitisation in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and the aspiration of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli to become Governor of Oyo State.
Sanusi stressed that effective grassroots politics requires sustained interaction with the people, understanding their concerns and communicating political programmes at the family and community levels.
He also charged members to remain united, disciplined and committed to peaceful political participation while strengthening the movement across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State.
The JDS principal further announced October 17, 2026, as JDS Tinubu Day, with the event scheduled to hold at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Ibadan.
The programme, according to him, will provide another platform for members of the JDS political family, supporters of President Tinubu and other stakeholders to demonstrate their commitment to the President’s re-election campaign.
The announcement was met with enthusiasm from traders, political groups and grassroots stakeholders at the gathering.
The Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje, who led the delegation of market traders, reaffirmed the traders’ support for President Tinubu’s re-election and Senator Alli’s gubernatorial aspiration.
Konibaje described market traders as important stakeholders in the political and economic development of the state, stressing that they would continue to participate in engagements concerning their businesses, livelihoods and the future of Oyo State.
The gathering brought together market leaders and representatives from the 33 local government areas, alongside political leaders, grassroots mobilisation coordinators, market associations and members of the JDS Support Group.
Also in attendance was the President of the Yoruba Youth Council, Mogaji Alawode Rahmon, alongside youth leaders and other community stakeholders.
With 27 groups reportedly indicating their willingness to join the JDS Support Group, the latest development is being positioned by supporters as a major expansion of the movement’s grassroots coalition ahead of 2027.
The organisers said the next phase would focus on converting the growing coalition into sustained community mobilisation, voter education, grassroots sensitisation and peaceful political participation across Oyo State.
