OSUN VICTORY: OLATUNJI CONGRATULATES ADELEKE, SAYS PEOPLE’S POWER CAN DEFEAT POLITICAL ODDS

ADP Governorship Candidate Says Osun Election Reaffirms the Power of the People Beyond Money, Influence and Political Structures

The Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Hon. Kunle Olatunji KTJ, has congratulated the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the recently concluded Osun State Governorship Election, describing the outcome as a significant morale booster for the electorate and a powerful reminder that the people remain the ultimate custodians of democratic power.

Olatunji said the outcome of the election has once again demonstrated that political contests cannot be determined solely by financial resources, established political structures, incumbency, influence or the perceived strength of political establishments.

In a congratulatory statement, the ADP governorship candidate noted that the Osun election should inspire emerging political leaders, opposition figures, independent-minded politicians and candidates popularly regarded as “underdogs” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the result represents an important lesson for Nigeria’s democratic development, particularly at a time when many Nigerians are increasingly demanding accountable leadership, credible representation and leaders who can connect meaningfully with the people.

“THE PEOPLE STILL HAVE THE POWER”

Olatunji maintained that democracy derives its legitimacy from the people, adding that the ballot remains one of the strongest instruments through which citizens can reward good governance, reject unpopular leadership and determine the direction of their communities and states.

He said the Osun election, coming amid intense political competition and the deployment of significant political and campaign resources, had reinforced his longstanding conviction that elections can produce outcomes that defy conventional political calculations.

He described the development as particularly encouraging for politicians and aspirants who may not presently possess the largest political structures or financial resources but are building genuine relationships with the electorate.

According to him, political calculations based solely on money, influence, incumbency or established structures may no longer be sufficient to guarantee electoral victory in an increasingly politically conscious Nigeria.

“The Osun election is a morale booster for many emerging political leaders and genuine democrats who believe that strong connection with the electorate, fulfilment of electoral promises, empathy, commitment to quality leadership, strategic positioning and credible engagement with the people remain critical to electoral success.

“It is becoming increasingly evident that Nigerian voters are beginning to appreciate the power of their votes and the importance of participating actively in the democratic process.”

Olatunji also commended the electorate for participating in the electoral process and urged political leaders to regard voters not merely as instruments for securing electoral victory but as citizens whose interests, aspirations and welfare must remain at the centre of governance.

He stressed the importance of issue-based politics, credible campaign promises, accountability and sustained engagement with citizens beyond election periods.

According to him, political leaders must begin to understand that modern electorates are increasingly interested in the quality of leadership they receive and the tangible impact of government policies on their daily lives.

He therefore called on politicians across the country to move away from politics driven solely by personal ambition and embrace a people-centred approach that prioritises employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, economic empowerment and improved living conditions.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ADELEKE AND THE PEOPLE OF OSUN

While congratulating Governor Ademola Adeleke on his electoral victory, Olatunji extended his goodwill to the people of Osun State, political parties, candidates, supporters and all stakeholders who participated in the democratic process.

He described the election as another important chapter in Nigeria’s democratic development and urged all political actors to continue promoting peace, tolerance and respect for the will of the electorate.

He also called on winners to govern inclusively and for those who lost to respect democratic institutions and continue contributing constructively to the development of the state and the nation.

A NEW POLITICAL REALITY

Olatunji concluded that the significance of the Osun election extends beyond the immediate political victory, arguing that it has generated renewed confidence among Nigerians who believe that their votes can make a meaningful difference.

He said the emerging political reality should encourage more competent, visionary and people-oriented Nigerians to participate actively in politics rather than leaving the political space exclusively to established political interests.

He urged aspirants preparing for the 2027 elections to return to the grassroots, listen to the people, understand their challenges and earn their trust through consistent engagement and credible leadership.

For Olatunji, the lesson of Osun is straightforward: political structures may influence elections, financial resources may support campaigns and powerful individuals may shape political narratives, but ultimately, the people retain the constitutional power to decide who governs them.

He therefore urged Nigerians to protect the sanctity of their votes, participate actively in the democratic process and demand accountability from those entrusted with political authority.

The Osun outcome, he said, should inspire every genuine democrat and emerging political leader to remain committed to the belief that with the people, strategic preparation, credible leadership and determination, even the most unlikely electoral victories remain possible.
