ONA ARA 2027: ELEGE TAKES DEVELOPMENT MESSAGE TO THE GRASSROOTS, PROMISES EMPOWERMENT AND SOCIAL WELFARE

ONA ARA 2027: ELEGE TAKES DEVELOPMENT MESSAGE TO THE GRASSROOTS, PROMISES EMPOWERMENT AND SOCIAL WELFARE

The new month has commenced with renewed grassroots engagement as members of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and residents of Ona Ara Local Government Area came together for a community-focused meeting centred on development, economic empowerment, social welfare and responsible political participation.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for residents to interact directly with Hon. Ismaeel Sodiq Opeyemi, popularly known as Elege, the ADP candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly, while openly discussing some of the challenges confronting communities across the local government.

Rather than limiting the engagement to political promises, the gathering created room for questions, concerns, ideas and expectations from the people, reinforcing the importance of listening to residents at the grassroots before making decisions that affect their lives.

One of the key issues highlighted by Elege was the need for stronger voter education across Ona Ara.

He stressed that every valid vote represents a voice in determining the future of the community, urging residents to understand the voting process and avoid mistakes that could result in their votes becoming void or invalid.

According to him, political participation should not end with collecting a Permanent Voter's Card. Citizens must understand how to vote correctly, why their votes matter and how to make informed choices during elections.

Elege also placed economic empowerment at the heart of his proposed representation.

He emphasised the importance of supporting traders, artisans, entrepreneurs, small business owners and other local economic actors, recognising their contribution to the survival and growth of families across Ona Ara.

His proposed approach focuses on targeted empowerment initiatives capable of helping residents strengthen their businesses, create sustainable livelihoods and become more economically independent.

For Elege, meaningful representation must go beyond political visibility. It must translate into opportunities that can positively affect the everyday lives of constituents.

Infrastructure was another major area of discussion during the engagement.

Elege pledged to advocate for strategic development projects across Ona Ara Local Government, with the intention of directing attention towards areas where infrastructure deficits continue to affect residents and economic activities.

The emphasis, he noted, would be on development that responds to real community needs, rather than projects designed merely for political visibility.

Elege further identified social welfare as an important responsibility of effective representation.

He specifically expressed his commitment to supporting widows and vulnerable members of the community, stressing that government and elected representatives must ensure that people who are facing difficult circumstances are not forgotten.

His position reflects a broader message of inclusive representation, where development is measured not only by physical projects but also by the ability to improve the dignity and welfare of ordinary citizens.

The Ona Ara meeting also demonstrated the importance of maintaining a direct relationship between political representatives and the people they seek to serve.

Residents had the opportunity to speak, ask questions and communicate their expectations, while Elege responded by outlining areas he intends to prioritise if given the mandate to represent the constituency.

The engagement therefore served as more than a political meeting; it became a grassroots conversation about the future of Ona Ara and the kind of representation residents expect.

Elege called on residents to remain actively involved in the democratic process and ensure that their decisions at the polls are guided by proper information, competence and the interests of their communities.

He encouraged the people to participate responsibly, understand their electoral rights and hold elected representatives accountable for their commitments.

As the new month begins, the ADP engagement in Ona Ara reinforces Elege's emerging campaign message of grassroots accessibility, economic empowerment, infrastructure development, social responsibility and people-centred representation.

For the residents of Ona Ara, the conversation is increasingly shifting from political promises to the fundamental question of what kind of leadership can deliver meaningful and measurable development to the people.
