OFFICIAL: Shakhtar Donetsk Confirm Stamford Bridge as Champions League Home Venue

The decision means Stamford Bridge, the historic home of Chelsea Football Club, will temporarily become Shakhtar’s home for their Champions League fixtures, creating an unusual but exciting setting for European football.

Shakhtar confirmed the arrangement while expressing their appreciation to Chelsea for making the opportunity possible.

“Playing our Champions League home matches at Stamford Bridge is a special opportunity for Shakhtar. We are grateful to Chelsea Football Club for the opportunity to host our games at this special venue.”

For Shakhtar, the arrangement represents far more than simply selecting a stadium. The club has had to play its home matches away from its traditional base because of the ongoing situation in Ukraine, making alternative European venues an important part of its Champions League journey.

Now, one of the most recognisable grounds in English football will provide the backdrop for Shakhtar’s home fixtures.

Stamford Bridge has a long-standing association with European football and Champions League history through Chelsea. This season, however, the stadium will also host Shakhtar’s European home games, giving supporters another opportunity to experience Champions League football at the famous West London venue.

It will be a unique sight: Shakhtar’s orange-and-black colours taking over Chelsea’s blue territory on Champions League nights. 

Shakhtar remain one of Ukraine’s most prominent clubs and have continued competing at the highest level of European football despite the extraordinary challenges surrounding the country.

Playing Champions League home matches in London allows the club to maintain its presence on the European stage while offering fans a world-class venue in which to follow the team.

For Chelsea, meanwhile, the arrangement highlights the club’s willingness to support Shakhtar by providing access to its historic home.

Champions League nights at Stamford Bridge are already synonymous with big atmospheres, dramatic moments and elite European competition.

With Shakhtar now set to host their own fixtures at the stadium, fans will witness a completely different identity and atmosphere inside the same iconic ground.
