The Oyo State Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Hon. Kunle Olatunji (KTJ), has reaffirmed his determination to provide exceptional leadership and quality governance to the people of Oyo State if elected Governor in the 2027 governorship election.

Olatunji made the declaration during an appearance on Politics Explained, a television programme on Dominion TV, where he outlined his vision for a more prosperous, efficiently governed and development-oriented Oyo State.

The ADP candidate said his aspiration was driven primarily by a genuine desire to serve humanity and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state, rather than a desperate pursuit of political power.

According to him, “I am determined, but I am not desperate. My interest is to serve. I am a true democrat and progressively inclined person who believes that leadership must be about the people, their welfare and the development of society.”

Olatunji said that, if given the opportunity to serve, he would seek out competent professionals and some of the best minds available to work with the people of Oyo State in reengineering the state's development architecture and positioning it for accelerated growth and sustainable development.

He acknowledged that convincing some political observers and members of the public about the sincerity of his aspiration could be challenging, particularly given past experiences of unfulfilled promises and repeated political rhetoric about progressivism.

He, however, urged the people of Oyo State not to lose faith in the possibility of purposeful, accountable and people-oriented leadership.

Olatunji pointed to the legacies of past leaders, including Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Ladoke Akintola, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Michael Ajasin, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, Chief Lam Adesina and Chief Michael Koleoso, saying their contributions to governance remain important references for those seeking to provide effective leadership.

He described his own political aspiration as a pledge to serve the people of Oyo State with sincerity, accountability and a clear sense of responsibility.

“Mine is a pledge and a promise to serve the good people of Oyo State and set the pace in excellent leadership and governance towards achieving accelerated growth and development. I believe strongly that leadership should be about service, responsibility and the collective good,” he said.

The ADP candidate also expressed confidence in the democratic process, saying the people of Oyo State have the constitutional responsibility to determine who leads them in 2027.

Responding to views among some political observers who regard his candidacy as an underdog in the 2027 contest, Olatunji said he remained focused on engaging with the electorate, communicating his vision and presenting his ideas for the development of the state.

“I have absolute faith in God, the people of Oyo State and the democratic process. My responsibility is to continue to present my vision, engage the people and remain committed to this journey of service,” he said.
He further maintained that Oyo State possesses significant human, natural and capital resources capable of supporting substantial economic growth and development.

“We have all the resources, human, natural and capital, to excel in growth and development. What is lacking is the visionary leadership to coordinate and direct these resources, and that is what I am poised to address with my aspiration,” Olatunji stated.

He called on the people of Oyo State to carefully examine the various visions and programmes being presented ahead of the 2027 governorship election and make their decision through the democratic process.
