The Oyo State Muslim Political Unity Forum for Jubril Dotun Sanusi (JDS) has mobilised more than 10,000 Muslims from across the state for a strategic political and unity gathering held at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Ibadan.

The gathering brought together Muslim leaders, clerics, community representatives, grassroots mobilisers and political supporters from different parts of Oyo State, with discussions focused on unity, peaceful political participation and collective responsibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event was hosted by Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland and Okanlomo Oodua. His installation as Gbonka Olubadan was formally carried out by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, in July 2026.

Speaking at the gathering, the Coordinator of the forum, Sheikh Saheed Ayoola Gbadamosi, Chief Imam of Anfani Community Central Mosque, emphasised the importance of unity, understanding and cooperation among Muslims.

He urged participants to place peace, community development and the welfare of the people above individual differences, stressing that collective action and responsible engagement remained essential to strengthening the Muslim community.

According to him, political participation should be conducted peacefully and with a commitment to the broader development of Oyo State and Nigeria.

The cleric subsequently led participants in prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Sharafadeen Alli and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The prayers sought divine guidance, wisdom, protection and success for the President and the party's candidates, while also asking Allah to grant Nigeria peace, stability and prosperity.

The political context comes amid increased mobilisation by APC stakeholders in Oyo State ahead of 2027. Recent reports have also documented calls by Chief Sanusi for unity, dialogue and reconciliation within the Oyo APC.

Receiving the participants, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi expressed appreciation for the turnout, describing the gathering as an indication of the importance of unity and collective engagement.

He reiterated his support for initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, community development and cooperation among residents of Oyo State.

Sanusi has in recent weeks been involved in engagements with Muslim scholars and other community stakeholders. In September, he received the Chief Imam of Ibadanland and a delegation of Imams, Alfas and Islamic scholars under the League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland, where he reaffirmed his support for initiatives promoting unity, peaceful coexistence, education and youth development.

The forum also resolved to strengthen grassroots engagement across Oyo State's geopolitical zones and sustain interaction with Muslim communities and other stakeholders.

Participants were encouraged to promote peaceful political participation, responsible leadership and constructive engagement as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

The gathering therefore served as both a religious and political engagement platform, with organisers presenting unity and peaceful participation as central themes of their mobilisation.
