2027: ADC Unveils Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku Abubakar's Running Mate, Promises National Renewal
ADC PICKS ROTIMI AMAECHI AS ATIKU ABUBAKAR'S RUNNING MATE FOR 2027 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially announced former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the vice-presidential candidate alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement was made by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic partnership designed to unite Nigerians and provide experienced leadership capable of addressing the nation's pressing challenges.
According to the ADC leadership, Amaechi's emergence followed extensive consultations involving party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from all geopolitical zones of the country. The party noted that his selection was influenced by his strong performance during the ADC presidential primaries, where he emerged as the runner-up and garnered significant support from party members nationwide.
In a statement released by the party, the ADC emphasized that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket represents more than a political arrangement, describing it as the convergence of two seasoned statesmen with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity required to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and development.
The party highlighted Amaechi's extensive political and administrative experience, noting that he remains one of the few Nigerian politicians with a balanced record across both the legislative and executive arms of government. He served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, making him one of the longest-serving legislative leaders in Nigeria's Fourth Republic. He later served two terms as Governor of Rivers State, where he spearheaded various infrastructure, education, healthcare, and governance reforms.
At the national level, Amaechi served as Minister of Transportation, overseeing major transportation projects and rail modernization initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and economic development across the country.
The ADC stated that Amaechi's vast experience would be instrumental in supporting an Atiku-led administration from its first day in office. The party further noted that his political influence across the South-South region and Southern Nigeria, combined with his reputation as a reform-oriented leader, would strengthen the party's national appeal and electoral prospects.
Party leaders also stressed that the ticket reflects a national outlook capable of bridging regional, ethnic, and political divides. According to the statement, the partnership combines decades of experience in governance, public administration, economic management, and party organization, offering Nigerians what the ADC describes as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general election.
The ADC maintained that at a time when citizens are demanding solutions to economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, and national disunity, the Atiku-Amaechi ticket demonstrates the party's readiness to provide competent leadership and practical solutions.
The party expressed confidence that the alliance would energize its growing coalition and inspire renewed hope among Nigerians seeking a change in governance. It also called on party members, coalition partners, civil society organizations, youth groups, women leaders, and all Nigerians of goodwill to support the ticket as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential election.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the ADC's commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria, stating that the Atiku-Amaechi partnership symbolizes the party's vision of national unity, economic revival, and inclusive development for all citizens.
